Content is the most important factor in any event. It is the basic reason why any event draws in an audience and is the primary means of differentiating a good event from a great one. Content made for a traditional in-person event may not always smoothly translate when done virtually. Now, with more events being conducted in their virtual or hybrid forms, it is important to make sure your content works well through these mediums as well.

Here are 5 ways to create content that is better suited for your virtual events:

1. Understand your audience:

Knowing your audience is crucial to the type of content you create. Finding out who are the people most likely to be interested in your event, their age groups, their job status, the language they speak, their expectations from the event, current pressing challenges that can be addressed via the event, and more can help you produce most suited content for your attendees.

2. Use visual aids:

Using audio-visuals along with oral presentations is highly recommended. Research suggests that presenting information visually can help retain nearly 65% of the information, compared to 10-20% when no visuals are used. Visual aids include creative assets like graphs and charts, pictures, videos, demonstrations and music. It also helps keep your audience engaged and interested in the event.

3. Be clear and to the point:

No one likes when people beat around the bush. Keep your content precise and clear. Avoid complicated words and technical jargon that may be hard for your attendees to follow. Your audience is less likely to get bored and distracted if you stay to the point and remember why they are there at the event. This also helps organizers include more value in the limited time during the event time and pack in more content in that duration.

4. Brief event speakers:

It is best to brief all your speakers before the event. Speaking to an audience in person can be a very different experience from speaking through an electronic device. Take your speakers through what they are required and how they will interact with the audience and rehearse the program. Remember to give them a specific time limit to stick to. Also, show them how to navigate the platform on which the virtual event is being held to reduce any technical issues.

5. Use social media:

Make the most of your social media platforms. Not only is it a great way of creating pre, during and post-event engagement, it will also give you an idea of the conversations and opinions in your audience’s online community as well as allowing you to interact with them directly. This will help you create content that is relevant and up to date with issues and topics that are important to your audience: not just for the current event, but future ones as well. It is also a great means of discovering speakers, event formats as well as feedback specific to the type of event you would like to conduct.

Ensure that the content you create for your event is noticeable, relevant and different, giving your audience reasons to attend it. It is important that your audience gets what they attend the event for in a timely manner. And make the most of the opportunities that a virtual event can give you!
